This saffron is of the highest quality (sometimes called super negin or sargol), with uncommonly delicate threads with a delicate floral flavor, golden color and a warm, honeyed fragrance.  Threads are carefully pulled from the flower, leaving the characteristic flame-colored tail.  Use it to add a distinctive floral flavor and golden color to rice dishes such as paella, risotto and biryani; in frozen desserts such as ice cream and kulfi; and to teas.

The white and purple crocus flowers are cultivated in the deserts of the Herat province in western Afghanistan, and harvested in November and December.  Each flower produces only three stigmas which are carefully extracted by hand and dried.   *The slight gradation in color assures you that the saffron is 100% pure - never dyed or adulterated.

  • 0.5g glass jar
  • Origin:  Herat, Afghanistan
  • Ingredients: Whole saffron threads (Crocus sativa)
  • Tasting notes are honey, dried roses, fresh hay
  • Add to paella; fold into buttery bread, cake or cookie doughs; steep a few threads in warm water when making crunch baked rice; steep in cream for a rich pasta sauce
