Nyanza Vanilla Powder is made from fresh whole vanilla pods that are sun-dried and cured in wooden boxes and then ground, yielding an intensely flavorful easy-to-use powder.  There are 6 whole pods in each jar, ready to use right of the jar.  The altitude, rich soil, and temperate climate of the hills around Nyanza (Lake Victoria in Tanzania) give the vanilla seeds a sweet, marshmallow flavor and lend the outer husks tart-cherry and apricot notes.  The powerful, rich flavor is wonderful for baking, cold brews, smoky-spicy rubs, braises, balsamic vinaigrette, smoothies and warming libations.  Use from half to an equal amount of powder in place of vanilla extract for alcohol-free, pure vanilla flavor.

  • 0.9 ounce glass mini jar
  • Origin:  Kagera, Tanzania
  • Ingredients:  Vanilla planifolia, ground
  • Tasting notes of toasted hazelnut, dates and tannins
  • Substitute for vanilla extract 1:1 in baking
  • In savory dishes, use ½ amount as you would vanilla extract
  • Adds exceptional flavor (along with black flecks) in baking or ice cream
