Shiranami, which means “white-capped wave” in Japanese, perfectly represents the stunning blade pattern of this Shun collection. The Shiranami series is forged from 71-layer Dual Core Damascus for superior sharpness and durability for a new standard in cutting performance and beauty. The blade is made of two premium-quality, high-carbon stainless steels - 71 alternating micro-layers of high carbon, high chromium VG10 and VG2 - which are roll-forged to produce a finer grain in the steel, giving it strength and beauty. This laminated steel is hot forged to create the wave pattern which allows the layers to alternate along the cutting edge. The textured surface of the jute micarta handle improves grip and control, even in wet or slippery conditions. These features combine for a new standard in performance and beauty.
